I recently added a firearm to my collection, the American Western Arms (AWA) 1873 Longhorn Single Action Revolver in .357mag. I was honestly not looking for a “classic” firearm like this, but decided to take the plunge into the revolver world.
I’d not heard about AWA prior to this gun, but found some good reviews upon further research. This Florida based company uses parts from Italy, and was a forerunner to replicating the monumental 1873 model of revolver (behind another popular brand that later sued them).
I was pleased to find that this revolver was practically new – it was still in the original case, doesn’t have any signs of use, and worked flawlessly. The action is flawless, timing is perfect, and the trigger is nice and crisp.
Specifications:
Round Barrel
5.5” Barrel
2.3lbs Overall Weight
.357 Magnum
Walnut Grip
Standard, High Polished Blue
The original pricing of this revolver was $440, but that was some time ago. These days, this firearm ranges anywhere from $450 to $600, depending on the condition of the firearm.
Did I mention that the trigger is crisp? Upon my first time shooting, I was amazed at how nice and smooth the trigger was, and the total action of the gun has zero imperfections. Overall, I’m not only happy with this revolver, but I’m also impressed. AWA, however, is no longer in business. Towards the end of their run (2008 I believe), the quality of their firearms began to decrease, and they stopped production quickly thereafter.
